Super Secret Suicide Squad

DC has released its first movie in 3 years, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is supposed to jump start the DCEU which began with Man of Steel. In August the villains will get their story with Suicide Squad; the world's worst criminals are offered reduced sentences in exchange for undertaking the most dangerous black ops missions imaginable. Considering how much we learned about Batman v Superman in the run up to its release, the makers of Suicide Squad are playing it super secret squirrel!

This is mostly speculation but there are some possible spoilers. Firstly, is this movie set before Batman v Superman? Ben Affleck's Batman is older and bitter, will we see this in Suicide Squad? Assuming Batman knows about the squad or Task Force X as it's also known, does its existence contribute to his bitterness? Especially considering the only reason these criminals - all of whom hold a grudge against Batman - were available for the task force is because Batman caught them. We know that in Suicide Squad, Batman goes after the Joker and Harley Quinn, is this his only involvement? Is he just part of Harley's origin story or will we see origin/back stories for multiple characters and Batman's involvement in their incarceration? Jeremy Irons is rumoured to be involved, which could indicate a larger role for Batman. Either that or he's just providing assistance from the Batcave as he does in Batman v Superman.

Notice the 'J' under his left eye

Jared Leto has some big shoes to fill as the Joker, he has to compete with Heath Ledger's Oscar winning performance in The Dark Knight. But is the Joker the villain of the movie or one of several? Joker is involved in Harley's origin, in fact he's responsible, you can see him torturing her in the trailer and dropping her into a vat of chemicals. But he isn't a member of the squad, according to Latino Review he's moved to Belle Reve Prison as a means of control over Harley. It's rumoured that he's after Enchantress for Lex Luthor who's interested in her abilities, although I'm not sure why. Now anyone who's seen the trailer for Batman v Superman has seen the Robin uniform with "Ha Ha Ha Joke's on you Batman" sprayed on it, this likely belonged to Jason Todd who took up the mantle of Robin after Dick Grayson became Nightwing. In the comics Joker tortured and murdered Jason Todd which would explain the suit in the Batcave, but in one story arc Joker didn't kill Todd, he just tortured him which caused Todd to lose his mind and take on the personality of the Joker. In other story arcs Todd has returned as the Arkham Knight and been resurrected as the Red Hood. The torture did leave him with broken teeth and a 'J' tattoo under his eye, now it could be that Ayer and co liked these elements of Todd's Joker look and used them for their Joker. But combine that with the suit in the Batcave and it's possible Leto's Joker could be Jason Todd.

Enchantress is actually the spirit of a powerful sorceress imprisoned in a cave for an unknown amount of time. June Moone (Cara Delevingne) is possessed by Enchantress when she explores the aforementioned cave. Delevingne describes Enchantress as feral due to her long term imprisonment. Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) is interested in Enchantress and her abilities although she's not a member of the squad, however June Moone is Rick Flag's (Joel Kinnaman) girlfriend.

The comic book character Deadshot is said to be very different to the one in the movie. In the comics Deadshot A.K.A Floyd Lawton is a ruthless assassin who will kill anyone for money, except Batman. He learns that if Batman appears he should give up immediately. Batman is the only man Deadshot fears, having tried and failed to kill him so many times. But in the movie, Deadshot apparently has a bit of a conscience, he takes one last job to get out of the life and spend time with his daughter. But the job goes wrong and he ends up in Belle Reve Prison. I'm guessing the Suicide Squad offers him a chance at redemption as well as a reduced sentence of course. The changes have probably been made by/for Will Smith who always seems to play this sort of character. He may be bad, but there's some good to him. Smith's look is interesting; with a customised AR-15 rifle, modified Glock 17 sidearm and custom armour with modified Glock 17's mounted on each forearm and plenty of extra magazines for both rifle and sidearm. Also he looks like a young, slim Uncle Phil from The Fresh Prince of Belair!

Margot Robbie is playing Harley Quinn, the Joker's psychotic groupie girlfriend. We will get to see her transformation from Psychiatrist Doctor Harleen Quinzel to psychotic Harley Quinn at the hands of her Mr J.

Very little is known about Scott Eastwood's character; he's a soldier (possibly special forces operator) assigned to the team, that's all we know. The patches seen below could be a clue to his character's identity or background. "GQ" is likely some sort of nick name; it could relate to either the mens magazine (Gentlemen's Quarterly) or the US Navy readiness level "General Quarters", so either he's stylish or US Navy...or both. The other patch I'm guessing is some kind of unit insignia, possibly a fictional one for Task Force X or Suicide Squad. Please leave a comment below if you recognise or have knowledge of either.

It has been speculated that Eastwood is playing either Dick Grayson or Slade Wilson. Wilson was a soldier who became Deathstroke; a super soldier or metahuman who's abilities are enhanced by a super serum. He has the strength of 10 men, heightened speed, stamina, reflexes and endurance, and the ability to use 90% of his brain. Deathstroke was shot in the head causing him to lose sight in his right eye. This should be something to look out for if Eastwood's character hasn't been revealed. If Eastwood is playing Dick Grayson he's probably known as Agent 37. In the comics Grayson faked his death, after which Batman tasked him with infiltrating the organisation known as Spyral where he worked under the codename Agent 37. Batman was interested in Spyral's activities unmasking superheroes. It makes sense that if Batman is aware of Suicide Squad and what they're up to that he would want to keep a close eye on them. However, it would be monumentally difficult for Grayson to infiltrate the government or military units attached to Suicide Squad let alone getting on the team itself. Either that or Batman has kidnapped Mystic Meg and got Grayson to join the US military years ago! There's a possibility that he's just a soldier and is being singled out because he's recognisable and he's worked with Director David Ayer before on Fury. Given the information I have I'd say Eastwood is more likely Slade Wilson than Dick Grayson, but at this point I'm not entirely sure he's one or the other.

Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) is the government official who assembles Task Force X. She's the boss. As Waller puts it; "getting people to act against their own self interest is what I do for a living."

Colonel Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) is the soldier that leads the team on the ground, not everyones dream job! I believe he reports directly to Waller.

Katana (Karen Fukuhara) wields the Soultaker blade which traps the souls of its victims within the sword itself. She isn't a criminal like the others, she's a volunteer and Rick Flagg's bodyguard.

"Find your inner shit bag" is the advice given to Jai Courtney by Director David Ayer. Boomerang is a brawler with a beer holster and some ridiculous weaponry, including some boomerangs I guess.

El Diablo is able to create fire, he's also a former Los Angeles gang banger who wants to stay out of the fight. Waller keeps him in a floodable cell at Belle Reve for obvious reasons.

Killer Croc suffers with a rare skin condition that has left him with reptilian skin. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje describes him as "a cannibal with rage issues". Croc is also picky, he apparently only eats very talented people.

Slipknot (Adam Beach) is a mercenary/assassin who is very good with rope, even using it as part of his fighting style. According to Beach, Slipknot is the team's "escape plan", able to get them out of trouble.

What the members of Suicide Squad will have to face is being kept very secret, the image above is one of the only clues. You can see Harley and possibly Katana standing on the left at the bottom of the stairs. I've never read any of the comics so I have no idea, it could link to Justice League and possibly Bruce Wayne's dream/vision of the future in Batman v Superman. The fact that there's several creatures standing around what ever that thing is doesn't really help, it could be a weapon or some kind of portal for inter-dimensional or inter-stellar travel, it could be the movie's main villain. Whatever it is, it looks like the convicts will earn those reduced sentences!

Breathe Easy: Average Guy Movie Review

Breathe Easy is an independent film, shot in multiple locations throughout ten countries. This global accomplishment took more than 20 directors roughly a year to make. Strange clouds have appeared in the sky across the globe and people are starting to behave in very strange ways. Governments are scrambling to deal with the crisis, but without knowing the cause, what can they do except...Breathe Easy?

In a time when Hollywood studios can afford to film all over the world, it's easy for us to become indifferent. But an independent film shooting in ten countries including the UK, US, Australia and Hong Kong is an incredible achievement. And the results speak for themselves. Instead of focusing on one region or group during a global disaster - with small updates of events occurring elsewhere - the action is shared pretty much equally across all locations. It's an interesting look at how different people react to the same situation. Some will run, some will hide. Some will just ge…

Blade Runner: Black Out 2022 | Moustache Reaction

If you weren't excited about Blade Runner 2049 before, you certainly should be now. The longest and most informative of the three shorts, Black Out 2022 tells the story of a major event that had global consequences.
The roll out of the Nexus 8 - a new replicant with full human lifespans - saw the rise of human supremacy movements. These groups used the Replicant Registration database to identify and kill replicants. In response, a group of replicants sought to destroy the records, their actions led to the prohibition of their kind causing many to go into hiding.
Black Out 2022 is a brilliant piece of filmmaking! Not only is it well written, but the use of multiple animation styles make it both visually stunning and perfectly grounded in the Blade Runner universe. This spectacular short is a perfect bridge between Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049.
Don't forget to check out the other two Blade Runner 2049 shorts:

Anticipated Movies of 2017

2017 promises an excellent line up of movies, will they live up to expectations? Only time will tell. These are some of my most anticipated movies of 2017:

Assassin's Creed - 1st January

I know it's in cinemas already but it deserves a place on this list. In what could possibly be the first truly successful adaptation of a video game, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the memories of his ancestor Aguilar - a member of a secret society of assassins - thanks to Abstergo, a Templar controlled corporation and their revolutionary technology that unlocks 'genetic memories'.

Live by Night - 13th January

Ben Affleck directs and stars in this crime drama about organised crime in Prohibition Era America and the hunt for the 'American Dream'.

Lion - 20th January

The true story of an Indian boy who loses his family and is adopted by an Australian couple. Years later he uses Google Maps to find his village and make his way home to his family.
