Indiana Jones and the Sequel of Doom

Several years ago Harrison Ford, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas had a little reunion. That reunion resulted in the near destruction of one of our best loved movie franchises! Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was nothing short of a tragedy that simply left fans asking...why? Why aliens? Why CGI ants? Why cast the great John Hurt as a babbling nut? Why is Marion back? Why are they getting married? Why, instead of Sean Connery or Short Round do we get Shia LaBeouf? Why even bother?

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I imagine it happened much like the plot of "The Hangover". Bunch of blokes get together, get wasted, wake up the next day with no memory and while trying to find out what happened discover they made a really bad movie. The only good thing that came of Crystal Skull was the South Park episode about it.

Now they're doing it again. It has been announced that Indiana Jones and the Sequel of Doom (not the official title) will be released in July 2019. Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg are returning but it's unknown whether George Lucas is involved. Recently, both Ford and Spielberg have seen success with follow ups to their previous work. Ford starred in The Force Awakens and is set to star in Blade Runner 2049 later this year. Spielberg was Executive Producer on Jurassic World, both box office hits. Has this success encouraged them to try again with Indy? Or are they trying to make up for what South Park called the rape of Indiana Jones (with disturbing Deliverance style imagery)? George Lucas was disappointed with The Force Awakens and even more so with his lack of involvement, maybe it's for these reasons he hasn't announced any involvement in Indy 5. Maybe between Crystal Skull and the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Lucas is looking to avoid further criticism.

At this point we don't know if any other characters are returning or if the story will maintain continuity. It's possible that Crystal Skull will be ignored, or that the story will be written in a way that doesn't require other characters to return. Raiders, Temple and Last Crusade are as much stand alone movies as they are connected. It has been asked whether Shia LaBeouf will return, I personally ask should he return? His character - Mutt - was just irritating. In fact, if you're going to bring back anybody bring back Sallah, and no one else! Unless you can convince Connery to come out of retirement.

Without any plot details it's impossible to say if Indy 5 has any good prospects, and with two years until the release we've got a while to wait before we see any. Having seen and very much enjoyed Ford's return as Han Solo I'm not worried about him putting on the fedora again, but even Ford's acting ability couldn't save the very terrible Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. On the one hand Crystal Skull is a black cloud over a really great trilogy (regardless of what you think of Temple of Doom), but on the other, it does set the bar very low!

Breathe Easy: Average Guy Movie Review

Breathe Easy is an independent film, shot in multiple locations throughout ten countries. This global accomplishment took more than 20 directors roughly a year to make. Strange clouds have appeared in the sky across the globe and people are starting to behave in very strange ways. Governments are scrambling to deal with the crisis, but without knowing the cause, what can they do except...Breathe Easy?

In a time when Hollywood studios can afford to film all over the world, it's easy for us to become indifferent. But an independent film shooting in ten countries including the UK, US, Australia and Hong Kong is an incredible achievement. And the results speak for themselves. Instead of focusing on one region or group during a global disaster - with small updates of events occurring elsewhere - the action is shared pretty much equally across all locations. It's an interesting look at how different people react to the same situation. Some will run, some will hide. Some will just ge…

Anticipated Movies of 2017

2017 promises an excellent line up of movies, will they live up to expectations? Only time will tell. These are some of my most anticipated movies of 2017:

Assassin's Creed - 1st January

I know it's in cinemas already but it deserves a place on this list. In what could possibly be the first truly successful adaptation of a video game, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the memories of his ancestor Aguilar - a member of a secret society of assassins - thanks to Abstergo, a Templar controlled corporation and their revolutionary technology that unlocks 'genetic memories'.

Live by Night - 13th January

Ben Affleck directs and stars in this crime drama about organised crime in Prohibition Era America and the hunt for the 'American Dream'.

Lion - 20th January

The true story of an Indian boy who loses his family and is adopted by an Australian couple. Years later he uses Google Maps to find his village and make his way home to his family.

Jackie - 20th January

Baby Driver | Average Guy Movie Review

Edgar Wright puts his own spin on the heist/getaway movie in his latest outing. Named after the song by Simon and Garfunkel, Baby Driver tells the story of a skilled getaway driver who suffers from tinnitus, to drown out this "hum in the drum", Baby (Ansel Elgort) is constantly listening to music. In fact, the whole movie is set to music, even the gunshots sync with the beat of whatever song is playing.

It took Wright 16 years to write this script, and then another 6 to bring it to the big screen. But it's a movie that's well worth the wait! The opening chase alone is incredibly fun to watch, yet intelligent and tense as well. I wouldn't blame someone for thinking there's nothing new to do with a car chase, but I'd definitely encourage them to watch Baby Driver before they make up their mind. Especially considering all of the driving was done practically, no CGI or green screen here. Elgort was allowed to do some of the driving and what he couldn't or …
